Moving house in October can be a refreshing experience as summer fades and autumn begins to unfold. October offers vibrant autumnal scenery and pleasant surroundings that can make exploring the new neighbourhood enjoyable.

Questions to ask during a property viewing:

What’s included in the sale? For example, all fitted floor coverings, fixtures and fittings, including all light fittings. Curtain poles, curtains and window blinds. Integrated appliances including a gas hob, double oven, extractor, and fridge.

How old is the property and its systems? For example, the age of the roof, boiler, and renovations. This will give you a good indicator of any maintenance expenses in the future.

Ask about the local area. What is nearby and what the neighbors are like.

Are there any known issues within the property? Feel free to ask questions such as current or past issues, for example any dampness or structural problems.

How long has the property been on the market for? If the property has been on the market for a while, then it is likely that there will be room for negotiation.

Tips for a smooth sailing October move:

Pre organising – start packing earlier to make sure you are ahead of the game. Making up a packing check list should also help you organise your packing. Also organise a moving date with your chosen movers to lessen the risk of last minute searching for movers.

Moving homes is a good reason to have a declutter of your belongings that you no longer need! This will also reduce the amount of belongings you need to pack.

Pack an essentials box for moving day. Pack things such as snacks, a change of clothes, toiletries, etc.

Prepare for the October weather! You could be outside/going in and out of your new property on moving day so make sure you have plenty of umbrellas and towels at the ready!

Label your boxes – make sure to clearly label your boxes so when you’re unpacking you know which box should go to each room. For example: kitchen, bedroom, lounge, etc.

How to declutter your home:

Donate what you can – Donate items that are still in good condition to charities and small community groups.

Take one room at a time – Tackle one room or area at a time, this will make the packing process a lot more manageable and less stressful.

Recycle responsibly – Get rid of unwanted items in an eco–friendly way by recycling the right way with as much items as you can.

Pack as you declutter – Once you have made up your ‘keeping’ and ‘not keeping’ piles, make sure to label those piles and start putting items in boxes that you’re keeping.

Sell unwanted items – Make a bit of extra money by selling your unwanted items, popular selling apps such as Depop or Vinted are a good way of making a bit of extra money while moving.

Good luck!
